Student Union activities & societies?

Bishop Grosseteste Student Union is an independent registered charity, at the centre of the BGU community and is always on hand to support students, as well as raising awareness of various student welfare issues.

Despite being a small union it has big ambitions. There are a wide range of established societies, such as poker, performing arts and psychology, as well as various sports clubs which take part in national and local leagues. Students can easily set up their own club or society if they wish.

As well as events and activities, the main role of the SU is representation, aiming to empower students and give them a voice – both within the university itself and at a national level. BGSU isn’t afraid to fight for its members.

Scholarships & Bursaries
(Any specifically for NI students?)

BGU has a number of bursary options for students, with a Basic Award for any full-time undergraduate students with a household income of £30,000 or less to specialist awards for Care Leavers and our 'Stand Alone' Bursary for students irreconcilably estranged from their parents. We also offer the BGU Learning Fund which is means-tested and discretionary financial assistance and is available to all UK undergraduate and postgraduate students who are experiencing hardship to make access to higher education possible.

Internships/Placement/Study abroad opportunities?

BGU is focused on ensuring our graduates are able to find rewarding and positive careers, in fact, 97% of our graduates are in full time employment within 6 months of completing their course. As such nearly all of our courses offer placement opportunities along with modules dedicated to putting the course skills into professional contexts.

BGU is also part of the Erasmus programme offering students the opportunity to study abroad and experience new environments and communities.
